When travelling on cruises, there are many tourists meet difficulty in visa process to enter the countries planning to visit, including Vietnam. This article is used to mention about applying Vietnam visa when you are on the cruise.

At first, you should know about ways to apply Vietnam visa. There are 3 ways to apply it. The first one is “coming to the Vietnam embassy/ consulate to apply directly”. The second one is “applying visa on arrival online”. The last one is “applying e-visa online”. Among these 3 ways, e-visa is the best choice for tourist on cruise. Why? Let me explain it as below:

For applying visa at Vietnam embassy/ consulate, you should come to Vietnam embassy/ consulate in your country by yourself. If they did not exist in your country, you have to come to the nearest one (the nearest country having Vietnam embassy/ consulate). This job spends a lot of time and effort. You need to prepare paper works and spend time to come to embassy/ consulate, then waiting for the result when the appointment comes. And if you apply in this way, you should apply it in advance. You cannot apply it when you are being on the cruise.

Visa On Arrival is more convenient than the above way. This visa is eligible for all nationalities in the world. You just access website, applying online by filling in the basic information and waiting for the result. This type of visa is fast, cheap, and easy to apply. However, it is only eligible for the international airport, including Noi Bai International Airport in Ha Noi City, Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang International Airport in Da Nang City, Cam Ranh International Airport in Nha Trang City, Phu Quoc International Airport in Phu Quoc Island, Cat Bi International Airport in Hai Phong City. Therefore, you cannot use it if you enter Vietnam via sea ports.

e-Visa is the last one, and also the best one for tourists travelling by cruise. It is fast and convenient. It allows you to enter Vietnam via sea ports, too. Vietnam e-visa has its advantages:

  • Duration of staying: 30 days.
  • Easy to apply: Only your basic information, attached passport and photo.
  • Quick process: Taking about 2 working days to get Visa.
  • Enter in sea ports: Hon Gai port in Quang Ninh province, Hai Phong port in Hai Phong province, Nha Trang port in Nha Trang city (Khanh Hoa province), Da Nang port in Da Nang city, Quy Nhon port in Quy Nhon city (Binh Dinh province), Vung Tau port in Vung Tau city (Ba Ria Vung Tau province), Ho Chi Minh port in Ho Chi Minh city. Besides, you can enter via Song Tien land port (border check point) when cruising from Cambodia to Vietnam on Mekong River.

However, e-visa also has its disadvantages:

  • Only single entry: With e-visa, you can only enter and exit Vietnam 1 times. If you want to enter more, you should apply a new e-visa.
  • Only eligible for 46 countries

So, if you are eligible for Vietnam e-visa, you can apply in anywhere with a laptop or cellphone. It is very easy to apply e-visa. You can click here for detailed guidance.

Hope you enjoy your trip!
